About Coach Brand
Hello! My name is Veronica Brand or to students, Coach Brand. I am the STEAM+ Physical Education Specialist at Carmel Del Mar. This will be my 13th year of teaching, 6th year at CDM. I began my teaching career in the La Mesa-Spring Valley School District. There I taught middle school physical education for 7 years. I am a former division 1 collegiate athlete. I attended the University of Minnesota (Go Gophers!!) on a softball scholarship and graduated with a B.S. in Kinesiology. After college I returned home to beautiful San Diego, where I obtained my teaching credential and master's degree. I am so thankful to be a part of the Del Mar Union School District and CDM family, it is truly the school with the heart.

My goal in PE is to provide every child with a positive PE experience, build their confidence, and provide many opportunities for them to work in pairs, teams and individually on physical and social emotional skills (that are connected with sports, games & activities). Students will be exposed to a wide variety of games and sports traditional and non-traditional (example-World Games Unit). Physical Education is so important it reduces stress and anxiety, boosts academic performance, provides opportunities for students to be creative and expressive, and most important of all encourages physical activity for life (Physical Literacy).
Let's have a great 2020-21 school year!
